The Maeve Chronicles

I am hoping that everyone had a wonderful February, stayed warm, felt loved and maybe, just maybe penned off a note or a card?
~laughing~
I enjoyed my time away immensely! When I left I was playing in the fabric. Well I continued to play and had a wonderful time! The few things that I remembered to take photo’s of before I gave them away or sold them I am posting over on the studio tab.

The one thing I did that brought me the most bliss was read.

I am an avid reader. I will read just about anything. Fantasy, mystery, history, fiction , non-fiction, it makes no matter to me.  I read voraciously, though I confess that I have slowed down considerably in the last few years. It always seems I pick up a book that some one recommends or that is on the best sellers list, and it’s pablum. It does not hold me, it does not engage me. I am here to tell you that The Maeve Chronicles have not only held me, they have delighted deep into my bones.

It’s not what the story is about, though I find the magic and romance of it compelling, it is the STORY.

Elizabeth Cunningham has given voice to Maeve , the main character, in a way that just makes you fall into the story. She weaves a tapestry of characters that have depth, that are so real and authentic you know them , you recognize them , often in yourself. She takes the history of the time and the players on the stage Druids, Romans, Greeks, Samaritans and Jews and weaves them seamlessly together. If you know anything at all of the time period, you will find yourself thinking ” Yeah, that could work”, and laughing out loud, because it’s just so human, it probably was that way. Ms. Cunningham has not shirked on her knowledge of  religion and mindsets of the time period. The amount of work she must have done, amazes me. I applaud her for the way she makes it read, so effortlessly, so believable.

She truly understand what a good story is.

We each are living our story, we are telling it as we go along, changing it as we recite it, loving it hating it and knowing it . Meave’s story is no different. I can not recommend these books enough, I beseech you to sit with a story that will truly make you think and make you feel like these will. The first one especially is a coming of age story that every young women should read.

I will leave you with a quote:

” … and I hope you will discover, if you don’t already know, the difference between a stereotype and an archetype. Stereotypes are flat, one dimensional, like the donkey you  blindly pin the tail on. Archetypes are rich, lush, juicy. Sometimes they go underground, submerge in the mists of myth, like the Loch Ness monster. But I am here to tell you: You can’t keep a good archetype down.”

  1. well hey, thanks for mentioning that book. sounds marvelous. i don’t usually read fiction cause i can’t find anything that holds my attention (usually because the sentences are too short). yes, i’m finicky. but this sounds marvelous, so i’m off in search tomorrow. and i love the quote clarifying the difference between stereotypes and archetypes. good one. last, but definitely not least, i love Her with red hair. it’s just right. i am captivated by her face. captivated, i tell you. so glad you’re back.

    I’ve always liked the saying:
“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend.
Inside of a dog, it’s to dark to read”

    • Considering in the 25 + years I have known you, you have never owned a dog ( and I don’t consider the one you married)
I would guess it’s been a long time since you read a book!
      LOL

  3. Missed you while you were gone :) The books sound wonderful! i haven’t gotten into a good series since the Twilight books (and I was a late bloomer on getting on that bandwagon. One I did, I was like a woman obsessed! LOL) The Maeve Chronicles sounds wonderful!

What is even more wonderous is the lightness of your being! It just exudes off the screen..it definitely appears that March was a good break for you! xox

  4. Good Goddess, another thing we have in common! Reading and the Maeve Chronicles! I was fortunate to attend a reading by Elizabeth in Toronto a few yrs ago when the Dark Mother came out…what a treat to hear Maeve speak through her and also here how Maeve came to live! And Elizabeth rocks not only as an author but also as a member of the wild woman pack. Put a red boustier on your doll there Sorrow, and that’s Elizabeth, no kidding!

Maeve has offered me another version of Jesus, one that I can swallow…. lol and Maeve, well I wish I knew here in real life because she is on my list of heros….

    XO C

That was great fun. I think we should do it again!

    Ummmm….maybe another month.
But clearly it did you a world of good. AND you got to re-discover books! I have a pile by the bed…..maybe I’ll drag some with me for the trip out west. I’ll have read time, no doubt.

Oh my goodness, you could knock me over with a feather! Your doll is phenomenal! Whoa, look at all that detail — the eyelids, the delicate individual fingers, the hair, the book! Whoaaaaaaaa! Incredible work. I bow down to you.

And thank you for the book recommendation! I barely have time to read these days, so when I do, I’d like it to be something very worthwhile. I will add these to my list of definites. Happy to see you again!
